Do you suspect someone is using this tactic?
Perhaps CCP would use a similar method as that which is used to verify the quality of a compressed file? CRC, or something.

Diee [GODS] says, in the screenshot Sirmolle, posted: "Can someone who has successfully done the rendering trick, explain how it works?".
This implies she/he knows people who have used that forum who are currently using the rendering trick and that she/he has tried it him/herself.
If it were upto me that would be enough to take serious action against Diee.

I really wish GM's would give us some statistics on numbers of people banned for exploiting and a general idea of what the exploit was.
No names, just numbers.
It'd be quite interesting.

Like I said earlier, it's under the hood, not the paintjob :)
So assuming CCP know what they are on about, most of this debate is mute even if someone decides to go swapping models.
If you remove the models you gain a lot of FPS.
This makes the client more responsive.
